Welcome to Bessey Creek Elementary! My name is Elizabeth Atkinson, and I am honored to serve as the proud principal of our amazing Cambridge International School. As a product of the Martin County School District, it is especially meaningful for me to give back and lead in the very place that helped shape who I am today.

I bring 18 years of experience in education, having served as a classroom teacher, STEM Lab teacher, and assistant principal. Throughout my career, I’ve remained committed to creating schools where every child feels safe, supported, and inspired to achieve their full potential.

At Bessey Creek, I am committed to fostering a school culture centered on relationships, safety, and student achievement. I believe in collective responsibility, high-quality instruction for every child, and strong partnerships between home and school. As a passionate kid advocate, every decision I make is guided by one core principle: what is best for our students.

This year, we will focus on building a positive, safe environment, strengthening behavior supports, and ensuring all students have the tools and opportunities they need to thrive. I look forward to working alongside our dedicated staff, supportive families, and incredible students as we learn and grow together.

Let’s make it a Gator-ific year!

Hello Bessey Creek Families! My name is Dr. Justin Sherman, and I’m honored to serve as the Assistant Principal of Bessey Creek Elementary. Before joining the Bessey Creek family, I worked in St. Lucie County as a school counselor at a PreK-5 school. Over the course of my career, I’ve also taught kindergarten and third grade, and I’ve served as a media specialist.

I hold master’s degrees in both School Counseling and Educational Leadership, and I recently earned my doctorate in Educational Leadership. Though originally from Michigan, I’ve been proud to call the Treasure Coast home for the past fifteen years.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and getting outdoors. My personal mission has always been to do what is best for kids, and I am dedicated to that work each and every day here at Bessey Creek. I’m looking forward to a great year of learning, growth, and connection with our incredible students, staff, and families.
