Education Foundation of Martin County Donates $500,000

The Martin County School District extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Education Foundation of Martin County for its generous support in fostering resiliency within our school community through a $500,000 donation.

Leaders of the Education Foundation presented the donation to the Martin County School Board during the Regular School Board Meeting on Oct. 17, 2023. 

The EFMC was awarded the $500,000 grant from the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations and the Florida Department of Education, which empowers the EFMC to cultivate resiliency skills in our Martin County School District students.

According to the EFMC, resiliency-focused programming includes the following, plus more:

  • "Character Counts!" – Providing training, materials, and resources to elementary and secondary schools.
  • "Conscious Discipline" at Bessey Creek Elementary and Palm City Elementary – Offering whole-group teacher training and in-class coaching.
  • "Feeling Buddies" kits with teacher training.
  • Community-wide Parent Workshops, hosted quarterly.
  • Weeklong Institute Summer Training for 14 teachers.
  • After-School Intramural Sports Mentoring program – Dedicated to teaching and reinforcing resiliency standards/characteristics, including coach stipends and materials.
  • Extended Day Program – Offering resiliency games, activities, and resources across all school campuses.
  • Kindergarten Readiness Backpacks – Procuring 13,000 books aligned with resiliency standards/characteristics for incoming kindergarteners.
  • Classroom Library Books – Aligned with the new resiliency standards and characteristics for all interested schools.
  • Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) – Providing training for community groups working with area youth.
  • "Leader in Me" – Funds to support supplemental resources for this program at SeaWind Elementary.
  • EFMC Career Exploration Labs – The EFMC's investment in five additional career exploration modules for Stuart Middle School, Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School, Murray Middle School, Indiantown Middle School, and Hidden Oaks Middle School.
