Ms. LeeAnne Layden, a literacy coach at Hobe Sound Elementary School, has been named the Martin County School District's (MCSD) 2023 Literacy Teacher of the Year.
The Florida Literacy Association's K-12 Literacy Teacher of the Year Award is presented annually to a dedicated educator who has made substantial impacts in the field of reading and literacy instruction. Ms. Layden was selected as the District's nominee for her passion for literacy instruction, ability to assist in the growth of reading skills, and overall student and teacher achievement at Hobe Sound Elementary.
Ms. Layden utilizes innovative instructional practices and encourages students to collaborate, use their creativity, and explore the deeper meaning of how the English language is structured for writing and communication.
Principal Dianne Memmer-Novak says Ms. Layden constantly provides exceptional professional development for her peers based on student data. Ms. Layden fully embraces and champions evidence-based learning to help grow students' reading skills, but also their love and passion for reading.
Ms. Layden's name and nomination packet have been submitted to the Florida Literacy Association for consideration in the statewide competition. The statewide winner will be announced officially in January.
