The Martin County School District and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) have successfully completed labor negotiations for the 2023-2024 school year.
“I want to extend my gratitude to our District team and the dedicated members of the AFSCME bargaining unit for their strong commitment to collaboration throughout our negotiations. These agreements pave the way for us to continue our emphasis on student achievement and the recruitment and retention of exceptional educational support staff,” said Michael Maine, Superintendent of Schools.
The package proposal has been tentatively agreed upon between the District and AFSCME #597 and will be presented to the Martin County School Board for ratification on December 19th, 2023. The package proposal includes the following:
- All Bargaining Unit- Eligible Members will receive a 4% raise across the board.
- Bargaining Unit-Eligible Members above the top step will receive a 3% raise in addition to the 4% raise mentioned above for a total raise of 7%.
- A one-time bonus for elementary school Food and Nutrition Workers in the amount of $300.00, and for middle/high school Food and Nutrition Workers in the amount of $500.00. This will be memorialized in a memorandum of understanding with an expiration date of June 30th, 2024.
- A $700.00 stipend for one elementary school secretary (per school) who performs bookkeeping functions.
Upon the ratification of the tentative agreement by the Martin County School Board, bargaining unit-eligible members of AFSCME Local #597 will vote on whether to ratify the agreement in January 2024. Specific voting details will be communicated to AFSCME-eligible employees upon return from Winter Break.
