Hurricane Milton

**Update 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10: Schools and offices in the Martin County School District will resume operations on Monday, October 14.

The majority of our campuses were fortunately spared from receiving severe damage and have been cleared for a safe return to classes. Murray Middle School did sustain significant damage, but thanks to our team’s remarkable cleanup efforts today and over the weekend, students and staff will be able to return Monday, utilizing areas of the campus that remained unaffected. Safety remains our highest priority, and we are committed to providing a secure learning environment as repairs continue.

Our thoughts and prayers are with our families and neighbors as we all continue to rebuild from Hurricane Milton, and we stand ready to support our students, families, and staff in any way possible.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday, offering a sense of normalcy through the power of education.

The District is partnering with the Education Foundation of Martin County to support our affected students and staff. Donations to the Milton Crisis Fund will directly support families and employees as we navigate through this difficult time. We are immensely grateful for the outpouring of support during this challenging period. As we assess ongoing needs and provide assistance, we will keep our community informed.

**Update - 6:45 p.m.: Tuesday, October 8 - Following this evening's briefing with Martin County Emergency Management officials, the decision has been made to open four schools as shelters on Wednesday, October 9:

  • Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School (opens at 7 am: special needs population - register here)

  • Willoughby Learning Center (opens at noon: pet shelter - residents must remain sheltered with pets. More info here)

  • Port Salerno Elementary School (opens at noon: general population)

  • Warfield Elementary School (opens at noon: general population)

Each shelter will remain open until the storm has left our area, at which time staff will begin the process of restoring campuses to pre-storm conditions. As a result of this timeframe, the decision has been made to keep all District-operated schools and offices closed through Friday, October 11. Essential personnel should continue to monitor communication from their supervisors through the remainder of the week. We anticipate resuming classes and normal operations on Monday, October 14.

Please stay tuned for updates via our website, social media, and District notifications.
