AFSCME TA

The Martin County School District (MCSD) is pleased to announce that it has reached a tentative salary agreement with the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 597 for 2024 – 2025.

Key Highlights of the Agreement:

  • Years of Experience Salary Adjustment (YES):
AFSCME bargaining unit employees with 0-19 years of verified experience in the Martin County School District will receive an adjustment of $50 per year of service. Employees with 20 or more years of verified experience will receive $75 per year of service. For example, an employee with 10 years of service will receive a $500 adjustment, while an employee with 20 years will receive a $1,500 adjustment. This adjustment is a one-time, permanent increase to the employee’s base salary, prorated to the first day of the 2024-2025 contract.

  • Across-the-Board Pay Increase:
In addition to the YES adjustment, ALL AFSCME bargaining unit employees will receive a 2.5% increase to their base pay.

  • Eligibility Requirements:
Employees must be active members of the AFSCME bargaining unit on the date of ratification and actively employed at the time of disbursement.

  • Updated Contract Language - Conditions of Employment/General Employment Practices - Article IV:

The new contract language that was tentatively agreed upon allows new hires and existing employees, for step increases, to bring in up to 30 years as opposed to 10 years of verified prior experience. This is prospective after ratification.  Employees will have 90 days from ratification to submit supporting documentation regarding their similar years of experience.

The agreement will take effect upon ratification by AFSCME members and the Martin County School Board. Ratification for AFSCME members is planned for early January 2025, while the anticipated date for School Board ratification is the January 21, 2025 meeting. Information about payment of these salary adjustments will be forthcoming following ratification.

“We are proud of the collaborative efforts demonstrated during these negotiations,” said Superintendent Michael Maine. “This agreement not only recognizes the dedication of our AFSCME employees but also ensures the District remains competitive in attracting and retaining top talent. These adjustments reflect our unwavering commitment to valuing our employees and delivering the highest quality education to our students.”
