Ms. Nikki Zech, an instructional coach and co-teacher at Bessey Creek Elementary School, has been named the Martin County School District's (MCSD) 2022 Literacy Teacher of the Year.
The Florida Literacy Association's K-12 Literacy Teacher of the Year Award is presented annually to an individual who has made significant contributions in the teaching of reading and literacy. Ms. Zech was selected as the District's nominee for her contributions to student growth, achievement and the overall learning environment at Bessey Creek Elementary (BCE).
Ms. Zech is constantly working to help educate all students for success. Principal Stacy Schmit says Ms. Zech's role continues to evolve. She is a Martin Mentor for teachers new to the school, a curriculum resource for all teachers at BCE, and she is now leading the charge to ensure every K-2 teacher on BCE campus because a literacy expert, so every K-2 student has the opportunity to grow in literacy and every 3rd-grade student becomes a proficient reader.
Ms. Zech's name and nomination packet has been submitted to the Florida Literacy Association for consideration in the statewide competition. The statewide winner will be announced officially later this month.
