The Martin County School District proudly celebrated the 59th Annual Lillian A. Dassori Secondary Spelling Bee, where the top spellers from each of our middle schools put their linguistic skills to the test. Held at Martin County High School, the competition featured 18 challenging rounds with students confidently tackling words such as pavilions, aquamarine, and narwhal.
After an impressive display of talent and determination, Shane Haley from Hidden Oaks Middle School, emerged victorious by correctly spelling the final word—artificial! 🏆
Our congratulations also go to Charlotte Poole of Treasure Coast Classical Academy, who earned third place, and Serphin Darensky of Indiantown Middle School, who secured second place. Their hard work and dedication were truly commendable!
A special thank you to Mr. Jeff Umbaugh, the District’s Managing Administrator for Martin County Virtual School and K-12 Materials, for serving as this year’s enunciator, and to Dr. Deb George (MCSD), Ms. Erica Wozny (MCSD), and Ms. Casandra Garcia (WPTV News Channel 5) for serving as judges. Their support and guidance helped make this event a success.
We are incredibly proud of all our stellar spellers who demonstrated remarkable perseverance and skill. Their commitment to excellence exemplifies the spirit of learning in the Martin County School District.
