🐾HELPING FURRY FRIENDS🐾 Student council members at Felix A. Williams Elementary recently completed their Spring service project in which they chose to support the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast. They organized a school-wide donation drive collecting items like pet food, treats, beds, collars, crates, and more from their #FAWEFamily. Last weekend, they delivered donations and then spent two and a half hours doing service learning. Students toured the shelter, learned about the Humane Society's Mission, and even assisted in some light cleaning. They also made enrichment treats for shelter dogs, cats, and critters. The Humane Society staff even named two kittens after student council members Liam and Allan! Students learned you're never too young to make a difference and support the causes close to your heart ❤️ #ALLINMartin👊 #PublicSchoolProud

🤝CREATING LASTING CONNECTIONS🤝 Our Florida Teacher of the Year, Melissa Matz, visited the Martin County School District last week. She attended and presented an "EdTalk" session at the District's 6th annual H.A.P.P.Y. Conference on Thursday, where teachers learned about diving in taking on challenges with their students. Ms. Matz then saw students in action on Friday at Felix A. Williams Elementary. It was an honor to have her share her expertise and celebrate the great work students and staff do here in Martin County! #ALLINMartin👊

🍎SHOWING APPRECIATION🍎 This afternoon, we are spotlighting Ms. Pam Root, an Exceptional Student Education Support Teacher at Felix A. Williams Elementary! "Pam is far more than an ESE Support teacher," grateful colleague Carissa Berkely shared. "She is someone that I go to for advice when I need help finding a resource to help a student. Pam comes into my classroom to 'support' for math, and most of the time, we truly 'co- teach,' or I love when she fully teaches the math lesson because she already knows how to explain it several ways so that ALL of the kids understand it." "I am proud of her for always being ready for the IEP meetings, has a great rapport with the parents and really KNOWS the IEP goals, laws and strategies that work best for the students," Ms. Berkley continued. "During the IEP meetings, the parents really appreciate how she breaks down the "lingo" and explains every section/step of the IEP. I love having her in the classroom and believe that she wears many hats and has done an exceptional job switching those hats whenever we need her to help. ALL of the students look forward to her coming in to the classroom and she works with ALL of the kids, and never views certain ones as "her kids." She is able to offer support to the students who need things explained a different way AND can enrich those students who need the extra push for math beyond the standards. Pam is always someone that the students, teachers and parents can rely on to go the extra mile." Thank you, Ms. Root, for going the extra mile for students! #ALLINMartin👊 #ThankATeacher
