🧡BULLYING PREVENTION MONTH🧡
October is National Bullying Prevention Month, a time specially dedicated to raising awareness about and preventing childhood bullying while advocating for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.
Please join us next week, on Oct. 18, as we celebrate Unity Day and unite against bullying by wearing orange. The goal of Unity Day is to bring together youth, parents, educators, and community members across the nation to emphasize the message that we are united against bullying!
The Martin County School District promotes bullying prevention all year round and has zero tolerance for any form of bullying or harassment. Please encourage your child to speak with any teacher, administrator or other trusted adult on their campus if they are in need of support.

🍎🎮LEVELING UP LUNCH🎮🍎
Let's get ready to level up with school lunch!
Celebrate National School Lunch Week with the Martin County School District during Oct. 9-13! Our Food and Nutrition Services teams have been practicing their gaming skills and perfecting the menus for their schools.
National School Lunch Week highlights the nutritious foods available daily at each school in the District. It's also a chance to bring awareness of the importance of healthy food choices at school.
“School lunches offer students fruits and vegetables, whole grains and milk, and meet federal nutrition standards limiting fat, calories and sodium,” said Laura Holmedal, MCSD's Director of Food and Nutrition Services. “National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the wonderful benefits of our lunch program.”

🪴🛠️PLANTING KNOWLEDGE🛠️🪴
Five Martin County School District plant operators recently ventured to the annual Florida School Plant Management Association (FSPMA) conference to grow their job knowledge and skills.
Steve Miller (The Pinewood Elementary), Gilberto Calderon (Bessey Creek Elementary School), Jonathan Sequiera (Crystal Lake Elementary School), Edgardo Rivera (Jensen Beach Elementary School), and Dana Martin (SDO) attended the conference along with our Safety Manager, Mark Cocco.
They learned important health and safety updates from the Florida Department of Education and engaged in learning about maintenance and proper groundskeeping. Steve Miller was lucky enough to even participate in the podcast "Beyond Clean with ACE!"
We look forward to the knowledge plant operators will be sharing after the conference. Shoutout to MCSD Professional Learning Department for making this trip happen!

Mrs. Engel's Heggerty Heroes for the month of September! These students have been working hard by fully participating in our phonemic awareness lessons! Congratulations!
Mrs. Engel's first graders wore blue to support no bullying!
Students in Mrs. Homan's class collaborated and practiced their math skills in some fun math centers! Rock star second graders!
As we wrap up our units on life-cycles, practices of science, and math equations, the students in Mrs. McIntyre's First grade class demonstrated all their new gained knowledge! The students used their 5-senses to describe an apple. What does an apple sound like? They used scientific vocabulary to order and describe the life-cycle of an apple. Using a math strategy of choice, the students created a mathematical story problem about apples on and off a tree. They were so creative!
🌎ECO HEROES TAKING ACTION🌎
Eco Action Team, unite!
Jensen Beach Elementary School is working to become a nationally certified eco-school and its Eco Action Team is leading the way!
Tonight, the team had its second meeting to discuss what students have done so far to learn about their surrounding ecosystem and what actions they want to take to reach their goal of being an eco-school.
Becoming a nationally certified eco-school isn't an easy task, but these students (with the help of teachers, parents and community partners) are ready for the challenge!

⚠️NATIONWIDE ALERT⚠️
Around this time tomorrow, the Federal Emergency Management Agency FEMA and the Federal Communications Commission are planning to test both the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA).
The test will occur Wednesday, October 4, at 2:20 p.m. It will be conducted in two parts, with one set to go to cell phones and the other to radio and TV stations.
FEMA says the alert will have a unique tone and vibration to make the alert accessible to all recipients. Phones should receive the message only once in the 30 minutes after the test begins on Wednesday.

Mrs. Engel's first graders extended their learning about the life cycle of an oak tree with the life cycle of an apple tree in these STEM stations! They were practicing their addition and subtraction skills, figured out the sequence of how to plant a seed and how it grows, and read their mini book about how apple trees change each season, then made their trees match the season on the page. 👏👏
