📆MAKEUP DAY INFORMATION📆
Martin County School District students will NOT be required to make up the days missed due to the recent hurricanes.
Fortunately, after a thorough review of the District’s instructional calendar, students will still meet state requirements and complete the academic year without the need to use make-up days at this time.
We are committed to supporting the community with ongoing recovery efforts, including through the Education Foundation of Martin County’s relief fund for employees and families, providing free meals for students, and offering credit for last week’s Extended Day services. 🌀EYE ON THE STORM🌀
** Update 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, October 8: Following this evening's briefing with Martin County Emergency Management officials, the decision has been made to open four schools as shelters beginning at noon tomorrow, October 9, with the exception of the special needs shelter, which opens at 7 a.m. The shelters will remain open until Hurricane Milton has moved away from our area, at which time staff will begin restoring campuses to pre-storm conditions.
As this will take us into Friday, all MCSD-operated schools will remain closed through the end of the current week. We plan to resume classes and normal operations on Monday, October 14.
The following schools will be used as shelters:
-Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School--opens at 7 a.m., Oct. 9 (special needs population - residents should register here: https://www.martin.fl.us/SpecialNeeds). This shelter includes limited medical oversight and is designed for residents with electricity-dependent needs such as oxygen.
-Willoughby Learning Center (residents and pets)
-Port Salerno Elementary School (general population)
-Warfield Elementary School (general population)
Families and employees are encouraged to stay informed by visiting our website, www.martinschools.org, and social media channels for the latest updates. Notifications will also be sent via the District's automated system. Families/employees who are not currently receiving text notifications should text START to 98900 to opt in. We encourage all families to continue monitoring hurricanes.gov and to register for local emergency alerts by visiting https://www.martin.fl.us/AlertMartin.

Jensen Beach High School is proud to showcase our Career Technical Education programs. Mr. Guy Power is the instructor of Architecture, Civil & Survey Drafting. Mr. Power says his Civil Engineering and Land Surveying background in site development led him to become an adjunct instructor at Indian River State College before transitioning to high school.
The Architecture, Civil & Survey Drafting Academy has been developed for students interested in progressing through a 4-year curriculum. Every student will benefit through the use of daily hands-on exercises, lectures, and project work. The program offers a variety of opportunities through a partnership with professionals in the fields of civil engineering, architecture, land surveying, landscape architecture, interior design, land planning, and government. Participants are trained for job skills and progression to 2-year technical or 4-year degree programs. Extensive program offerings include Engineering Graphics, Basic Architectural Principles, Computer Aided Drafting, Architectural Design, Mechanical Design, Introductory Geomatics, and Civil Engineering Principles.
When asked about his favorite part of the job, Mr. Power said, "Watching students learning to Get IT! The engine turns on and I get to watch as students get lost in completing their work and enjoying something that they can pursue for a career." He says in order to fully prepare his students for industry jobs and/or higher education, it is important for him to stay current with industry trends and standards. He does so with an advisory board of local industry professionals.
