What started as a typical summer day turned into a cute and inspiring animal rescue at Martin County High School—and yes, we’ve got photos!
Last week, camp counselor Ana Gonzalez noticed a mama duck in distress after her babies had fallen into a storm drain.
Enter our real-life heroes: Ray Williams (MCHS 2024-25 School-Related Employee of the Year!) and plant manager Brett Hawkins, who climbed down into the drain to rescue the ducklings and reunite them with their very relieved mom.
Ms. Dervin’s photography campers caught the whole rescue on camera! Shout-out to Kylie Resch and Ana Allen for capturing the winning shots. Kylie is pictured here with one of the rescued ducklings. 🦆
Just another day of going #ALLINMartin👊, even for our campus wildlife!

🍎LEAVING A LEGACY🍎
Please join us in congratulating Ms. Rebecca Herring on her retirement after an incredible 41 years of serving Martin County School District's students—and their kids, and their kids!
A true pioneer of home economics, Ms. Herring taught students how to sew, budget, and care for their first “babies” (yes, the battery-powered ones!). From South Fork High School to Jensen Beach High School and Martin County High School, she poured her heart into every lesson, especially in recent years as an intensive reading teacher helping students cross the graduation stage. Superintendent Michael Maine and the School Board were proud to celebrate the impact she's made on generations of MCSD students.
Thank you, Ms. Herring, for stitching lasting lessons into the fabric of our schools. We wish you the best in retirement!
