The Willoughby Learning Center Holocaust Memorial was created by our middle school students. Stones were used to spell out the phrase “We Hear You.” Each stone has the name of a victim of the Holocaust on one side with their fate (murdered or survived) on the other side. The phrase “We Hear You” was chosen by the students after viewing a documentary with Elie Wiesel and Oprah Winfrey visiting Auschwitz, the most infamous concentration camp. Upon seeing the display of clothing of children murdered by the Nazis, all that Oprah Winfrey could say is “We Hear You” to these innocent young victims.
