Dress Code

Willoughby Learning Center Dress Code
Students have the right to learn without being offended or distracted by the way other people are dressed. Students have the responsibility to dress neatly, be clean and well groomed, and avoid dressing in a manner that offends or distracts others. These samples are not all-inclusive but should serve as a guide for Willoughby Learning Center students. When a student’s appearance at school or at a school-sponsored activity violates the dress code, the parent may be requested to bring alternative clothing and/or the student will be subject to disciplinary action. The following dress code is consistent with the minimum standards set by the school district, but also contains a few additional ones as well, and is in effect from the time a student arrives onto campus and until he/she has left campus.


1. 👕Shirts must have a collar or crew neck. Clothing that exposes the torso is not allowed. The length of shirts may not exceed the wrists when arms are fully extended. If shirts are longer than the student’s wrists when arms are extended, the shirt must be tucked in. Collar shirts with buttons must not have more than 2 buttons from the neckline un-buttoned, even if there is a shirt worn underneath. Sleeveless shirts must cover to the edge of the shoulder and show no undergarments. This includes school athletic uniforms worn during the school day. No messages, pictures, symbols or clothing may be worn or displayed which portray ideas that are harmful to the health, safety, and welfare of students, e.g., messages which relate to drugs, smoking, alcohol, sex, gangs, profanity or violence. The following examples which are unacceptable, but are not limited to: tube tops, tank tops, spaghetti straps and halters, bare back or midriff clothing, skin-tight clothing, see-through clothing, and bathing suits.


2. 👗Skirts, skorts, and dresses may not be shorter than 2 inches from the top of the knee. Shorts may not be shorter than 4 inches from the top of the knee. Board shorts aka boys’ bathing suits, bike shorts or soffes are not allowed.


3. 👖Pants, jeans and slacks must be worn to the top of the hipbone or higher. All garments with belt loops must be secured and belted at the hip, must not be baggy or oversized, and the hem of pant legs must not drag on the ground. Tears must have fabric behind them where no skin shows behind the tear.


4. 🩲Clothing which is not worn appropriately, not properly fastened, has tears, holes, or is frayed (even if something is worn underneath) will not be permitted. Undergarments shall not be exposed, i.e. boxer shorts, underwear, bras.
5. Leggings are only permitted if they are covered by a dress, skirt, skort, or shorts that are in dress code length (skirts, skorts, and dresses may not be shorter than 2 inches from the top of the knee; shorts may not be shorter than 4 inches from the top of the knee), otherwise they will be considered out of dress code.


6. ⛓️No clothes or accessories with metal studs, spikes, ornaments, chains, or other objects which can scratch furniture, damage property, or cause harm to oneself or others may be worn.
 
7. Pajamas nor slippers shall be worn to school-they are out of dress code.


8. 👟Shoes must be worn at all times. For safety reasons, tap shoes, shoes with cleats or shoes with wheels may not be worn. Shoes with built in containers are prohibited. Shoes with laces and/or straps must be secured at all times. Athletic shoes may be required for Physical Education classes. If crocs are worn the back should be around the heel.  No slides are permitted.


9. 💇🏾No hairstyle, jewelry, or tattoo that is a distraction to the learning environment is allowed.


10. 🧢Hoodies on head, hats, shower caps, or any other head covering is not allowed.  (Exceptions will be made for Niqab, Hijab and Burka)


10. Blankets are not allowed on campus.
