Anderson was an educational pioneer in Martin County, having served as a School Board Member and also in various leadership roles at Indian River State College for more than 30 years. In 2006, he was honored as the namesake of Martin County's newest middle school - Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School. Dr. Anderson passed away on December 23, 2021, at the age of 80. Slowly but surely, the Environmental Studies Center has resumed its on-site field trips. To ensure transportation requirements are met throughout the District, as well as to allow the Center to welcome as many children as possible, students in grades 2-5 will have the opportunity to visit this school year. The Center offers many opportunities for the community to visit throughout the year, including the upcoming Grandparents Day which will be held this Saturday, February 5!
