Commissioner’s Book of the Month is a monthly reading challenge to promote literacy and reading engagement in K-12 schools. 🐾⚽️ A WIN FOR THE ANIMALS⚽️🐾 Last night was no ordinary soccer game between South Fork High School and Martin County High School's girls' varsity teams. Student-athletes came up with the idea to waive the entrance fee for all spectators who brought an animal toy or food. It was a huge success! All the toys and food will be donated to the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast! The game ended in a scoreless tie, but the players and community came out with an extraordinary win! Over the summer, the Martin School School Board unanimously voted to approve a partnership with BloomBoard, allowing selected current paraprofessionals to earn their bachelor’s degrees from Lake Erie College in either elementary or exceptional student education while continuing their work as a para. 🎁FALCONS SHARING JOY🎁 In a school-wide effort, Jensen Beach High School students collected and donated hundreds of toys to Elev8hope Compassion in Action! All hands and hearts were on deck to bring some joy to the holidays for those having a hard time this year. Several clubs on campus came together and took it upon themselves to serve the community with this toy drive. Special shoutout goes to the following clubs at JBHS: Students Government Association, National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, Drama Club, Hospitality Management, and Math Honor Society. Students in Leadership Class donated, collected the toys from the clubs, sorted them, and delivered them to Elev8hope. 🏀AVID AT AMWAY🏀 AVID students from Martin County High School and Jensen Beach High School recently experienced the magic of AVID at the "AVID at the Amway" event in Orlando, Florida! Students met AVID Alumni, participated in a college fair and heard from a panel of Orlando Magic employees about their paths to success in both college and career. Gavin Farrell, a 9th-grade AVID student at MCHS, was chosen to participate in a basketball challenge during the event! Students were given tickets to the Orlando Magic basketball game that evening! 🎉CELEBRATING ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT🎉 These Stuart Middle School students enrolled in the Marketing with Entrepreneurship Career and Technical Education program accomplished an amazing goal: they have earned their CTE certifications for ICT Communications Essentials! By obtaining these credentials, students have proved their knowledge of basic network functions and Internet connections, strategies and techniques for efficient Web searching, issues related to online safety and privacy, and more. Mrs. Davis-Chang, the program instructor, expects another cohort of students to demonstrate their success and earn similar certifications! 🧱BUILDING STRONG FOUNDATIONS🧱 South Fork High School students in the Building Trades and Construction and HVAC programs recently learned from local industry professionals the bright futures they can have without attending a traditional four-year college. The industry partners for these ctemartin programs provided a presentation on "Concrete 101". In collaboration with Ms. Maddie Williams (Treasure Coast Builders Association) and Mr. Stanley Blount (SFHS Building and Trades Instructor), Mr. Julio Vazquez and Mr. Roger Shultz were kind enough to provide information about construction opportunities post-high school education, the different salaries and benefits, and future growth opportunities within the building and construction field. 📚BOOK BONANZA EXTRAVAGANZA📚 It was a full house of smiles and fun at the Education Foundation of Martin County's first Book Bonanza! Jensen Beach Elementary School students and families had a blast watching their favorite storybook characters come to life and play several literacy-themed activities! Families enjoyed a BBQ feast, enrolled in the New Worlds Reading Initiative, created bookworm bookmarks, played book bingo, and went head-to-head in the “Who Would Win?” challenge, plus more! We are grateful to the EFMC for promoting literacy in such a fun way. Students left this event with books, enrollment to the New Worlds Reading subscription, and great family memories!
