🍁THANKSGIVING BREAK UPDATE🍁 The Martin County School District would like to formally announce students and teachers will have Nov. 20-24 off for Thanksgiving Break. As noted in the Instructional Calendar, Nov. 20 and 21 were designated as emergency makeup days to ensure our students would receive the instruction in the event the District had to close schools due to storms or other unforeseen emergencies. The District has had no such situation creating a need to make up instructional time; therefore, those two days are included in Thanksgiving Break for students and teachers. The Martin County School Board approved the 2023-2024 School Calendar during its meeting on Nov. 22, 2022. Yesterday, Governor Ron DeSantis issued a proclamation recognizing Nov. 6-10 as Holocaust Education Week in Florida. This week is observed each year during the second week in November, coinciding with the anniversary of Kristallnacht, which is widely recognized as a precipitating event that led to the Holocaust. This week serves as an opportunity for students to learn the atrocious history of the Holocaust and antisemitism, as well as the many consequences that followed. The Martin County School District will incorporate lessons about the Holocaust, using valuable resources identified by the Florida Department of Education's Commissioner’s Task Force on Holocaust Education. 🍎DAY OF DISCOVERY AT MCSD🍎 Today, professionals in LEADERship Martin County visited the Martin County School District as part of their program. It's an amazing opportunity to showcase the incredible work happening within our schools! The leadership class started their tour at Pinewood Elementary and discovered what learning and working in an elementary school was like. The members then visited Martin County High School, where they were treated to a delicious lunch prepared and served by CTE students in the Culinary Arts Academy. Afterward, the class headed to Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School and heard the band and chorus students play and sing beautifully. Chief of Security Frank Frangella talked about his important role in keeping our schools safe and our state-of-the-art Crisis Alert System. They also heard from a student panel, who gave the class a glimpse of life as a middle school student, juggling coursework and extracurriculars.
