🌽WHAT'S POPPIN'🌽 Indiantown Middle School is poppin' with mini blue corn! Students chose to grow mini blue corn so they could make popcorn🍿. They planted at the beginning of November, and the majority of the corn was ready to be harvested on Thursday! When students planted the corn, they were asked "when popped, do you think the popcorn will be blue or white?" They don't know the answer just yet...the corn needs to dry in order to pop in the microwave. Fun Facts about corn: 🌽Every piece of corn is attached to a string of silk at the tip of a corn husk. 🌽United States is the world's largest producer and exporter of corn and the US's #1 field crop. 🌽Corn is a vegetable, fruit and grain. 🐢🌊CELEBRATING 50 YEARS🐢🌊 For 50 wonderful years, the Environmental Studies Center has been a treasure trove of information and memories for Martin County School District students. Kids get a plethora of hands-on learning at the ESC, including learning how to test water quality while boating on the Indian River Lagoon, seining for small fish and touching all the different species in the Wet Lab. The ESC is truly a one-of-a-kind gem! Last night, the ESC celebrated its 50th anniversary at the Elliott Museum-Stuart! #ALLINMartin👊

Observe these projects from Crystal Lake Elementary...40 Hawks turned in STEM fair projects: 11 third graders, 4 fourth graders and 25 fifth graders! 🔢➗✖️AMAZING JBE MATHLETES🔢➗✖️ Jensen Beach Elementary students participated in the Virtual Perennial Math Competition on 2/18. Nine teams, 46 students total, competed. They practiced for hours after school to prepare for the competition, and their hard work paid off! Ms. Waters had an inspirational determination to ensure a quality and equitable education for her children and countless others in her community. She was named to the Florida Commission on the Status of Women in 2020 and was one of three people who signed the Articles of Incorporation for the Village of Indiantown. #ALLINMartin👊

📐B.E.S.T. AT MATH📐 Today, Martin County School District math educators can start sharing their new content knowledge on B.E.S.T. Mathematics Standards after attending an intensive all-day learning opportunity hosted by the Florida Department of Education this weekend. Educators from Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School, Hidden Oaks Middle School, Indiantown Middle School, Stuart Middle School and our district math team spent their Saturday in Miami for the workshop. Now, they are even more prepared to help lead planning lessons of the B.E.S.T. Standards for Mathematics for ALL students! #ALLINMartin👊

🍎LEAVING A LEGACY🍎 On Tuesday evening, Superintendent Dr. John D. Millay and the Martin County School Board celebrated the career of Palm City Elementary School's Stephanie Dale. Ms. Dale has educated MCSD students for 31 years, mainly as a third-grade teacher. She has impressed a love for reading onto countless students during her tenure. Principal Rabener and Team PCE will greatly miss the unparalleled poise and class she is known to exhibit in all situations. 🍎MARTIN MINUTE WITH MILLAY🍎 Martin County School District Superintendent Dr. John D. Millay and School Board Member Christia Li Roberts got a tour of the new Palm City Elementary School building today! PCE Principal Lauren Rabener says boxes are going in today, which means they are one step closer to opening! Principal Rabener and her team are working hard to ensure the transition will be as smooth as possible. In 2018, Martin County voters generously approved a half-cent sales tax increase to provide funding to replace the Palm City Elementary building. 🎼SIMPLY SUPERIOR🎼 During Tuesday's School Board meeting, Mr. John Egan of Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School was recognized for earning the Florida Bandmasters Association's 2023 Linda Mann Five-Year Superior Award. This award is presented to middle school band directors whose bands earn Superior ratings at the FBA District Concert Music Performance Assessment for five (5) consecutive years. An interesting fact about this particular award is that progress was paused in 2021 during Florida's return to on-campus learning during the pandemic. With that in mind, it took 6 years for Mr. Egan to earn the award, all while maintaining the quality of the AMS music program during a time of global uncertainty. 🎨CELEBRATING CREATIVITY🎨 Shirley Zhu, a Martin County High School senior, was recognized during the recent School Board meeting for creating the cover of the Martin County School District's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. Shirley is in the District's S3 Student Internship Program and works under the Public Information and Community Relations Department. She has flourished as a graphic designer, creating graphics and flyers for numerous departments throughout the District over the last two years. Shirley recently received her Cambridge Assessment International Education diploma and was awarded a Gold Key in the 2022-2023 Scholastic Arts Competition.
