During the 2024-2025 school year, the Martin County School District will cover the cost of essential school supplies for all students attending any of the MCSD-operated elementary, middle and high schools.
Essential school supplies are basic items that are necessary for a student to be prepared for learning in a general classroom setting depending on their grade level.
Superintendent Michael Maine led this initiative to support student success and ease the financial burdens of our families.
"We are committed to supporting our students and their families,” Superintendent Maine shared when the funding was first announced in July. “By providing these essential supplies, we are removing barriers to learning and ensuring that every student is ready to start the school year on the right foot."
The initiative originally provided $20,000 to each elementary school, $10,000 to each middle school and $5,000 to each high school.
Since the start of the school year, additional funding has been provided to ensure every student has the necessary supplies for a successful school year.
Supplies purchased for classrooms are based on teacher requests, which means supplies can differ from school to school and classroom to classroom. The majority of the supplies stay in the classroom so they are available for students whenever needed.
The Martin County School District wants to assure families that a student will never go without an essential school supply.
If a school needs more essential supplies, school administration may request additional funding from the District.
