The Martin County School District is excited to participate in "Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida!" from January 27-31, 2025. This annual event shines a spotlight on the power of reading and encourages students and families to integrate literacy into their everyday lives.
The Martin County School Board approved a special proclamation for Celebrate Literacy Week during its January 21 meeting. Drafted in partnership with Martin Reads, this proclamation encourages all citizens to join in the District’s effort to increase literacy and support the youth of our community with action and advocacy. School Board members are encouraging community involvement by inviting volunteers to read to students throughout the week.
This year’s theme, created by the Florida Department of Education, is “Building Literacy: Constructing the Foundation for Success.” Schools across the District have organized various engaging activities to foster a love for reading, bringing this theme to life.
From schoolwide read-aloud sessions and family literacy nights to transforming media centers and writing their own stories for others to read, our schools have something planned for every learner! Explore some of the activities store for our students all week at each of the District’s 12 elementary schools, five middle schools and three comprehensive high schools:
New this year, the District has partnered with the Office of Innovation and Choice to create videos featuring community business professionals from Governor DeSantis’ Get There Workforce Education Initiative. These videos will explore how literacy is integral to various trades and careers, offering students a firsthand look at the importance of reading in the workplace.
Also new this year, Martin Reads is hosting a Celebrate Literacy Week Kick-Off Event at the 10th Street Recreation Center on January 25. This community-centered celebration, scheduled from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., will feature fun activities, inspiring stories, and a shared commitment to the joy of reading.
