For the first time ever, CGE competed in Odyssey of the Mind this weekend. Mrs. Tammy Reinhart facilitated the group which has prepared and practiced for more than two months. OM is a STEAM problem-solving competition held on regional, state, and world levels. Unfortunately we will not be moving on to the state competition but it was a fantastic experience for our team: Jaelyn Miller, Eden Gardy, Ella Salcedo, Xander Boysen, Aidan Greene, Alda Rock, and Susie Smith.
“It was an absolute blast,” said Mrs. Reinhart. “It’s tough to know our journey is over but the learning experience and camaraderie of our group was inspirational. This is a very talented group of students”.
Congratulations Diamondbacks- thanks for representing CGE with professionalism and a ton of smarts!

Citrus Grove had a fantastic evening at the MCSD Elementary Stem Fair on Thursday! Raazia and Kyleigh took 2nd place for their team project in the environmental category, and
Vincenzo’s individual physics project, earned 3rd place. These three students are proud Diamondbacks in Vanessa Molina-Council’s classroom.
We also had FOUR classroom project winners: Mrs. Reinhart and Mrs. Lambert earned 2nd place honors, Mrs. Molina-Council earned 3rd place, and Mrs. Wendisch’s class received Honorable Mention.
This is the most winners CGE has ever had! Kudos to Mrs. Gibson for running our school based fair.
Additionally, we had many alumni invited to the regional fair for 6-12th grades, including students who will move on to the state competition. CGE is proud of our tradition as a science-focused school!🤩🤩

🍅PICKED FRESH🍅
Students at Citrus Grove Elementary School recently enjoyed fresh grape tomatoes with their lunch, which were grown in their own backyard!
The CGE Go Green club grew these tomatoes and the Food and Nutrition Services staff served them. That's as fresh as you can get!
What a great example of hands-on learning in the Martin County School District, while also being healthy and delicious. 🍅

Hands-on-learning trumps all others. Mrs. Gomez's 1st grade class grew a tomato plant! It started as a seed in their classroom aerogarden, which uses water and light to grow plants indoors without soil. Once the plant sprouted, they transplanted it to the Go Green garden at school. After a few months, they had 3 full tomatoes! Students enjoyed their creations as a healthy and delicious snack.

Diamondbacks, we are having a Spirit Week next week! Let's show how much we love CGE in the sweetest way - with a fun week of extra activities. Each day will have a theme with outfit choices students may choose to wear. For example, Monday is We Heart CGE: wearing pink, white, and red is encouraged and/or lots of hearts. Other themes for the week include dressing as a book character, representing your favorite sports team, and matching outfits with friends. The culmination will be a whole-school Spirit Rally assembly on Friday, February 9th. Wear our school colors, orange and green, that day! The events for this week are made possible by our PBiS team. Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports provide students with opportunities to learn from mistakes and work toward incentives. We can't wait to celebrate the Control, Good choices, and Effort students exhibit at school.... That's why #WeareCitrus!!!

The Environmental Studies Center and Inwater Research Group have an innovative opportunity to share with all MCSD students: they are hosting a Youth Driven Cinema contest! Here's how to participate: Create a 1-3 minute film about local or global conservation topics, with an emphasis on how we can create a better tomorrow for our planet. Creations with a unique approach, beyond recycling and clean-ups, are preferred. Winners share their films on the big screen for a live audience! The deadline for submission is April 1st. If you are interested, please visit the official website for the contest. https://www.inwater.org/education/ydc/ Good luck Diamondback filmmakers!

🐝STELLAR SPELLERS SHINE🐝
The Martin County School District held the 58th Annual Lillian A. Dassori Elementary Spelling Bee last night at Martin County High School.
Three students from each of the elementary schools in the District participated in 10 rounds of competition, taking on challenging words such as "eclectic," "sudsy," and "anaconda."
Felix A. Williams Elementary 4th-grade student Rafael Pedrosa was named Spelling Bee Champion, acing the winning word "avocado."
Congratulations to all our stellar spellers and to the champion, Rafael!

What an inspiring day! Holly O’Brien visited CGE to share her book and journey to becoming a published writer. She is a native Floridian, Martin County High School science teacher, and also the author, photographer, and illustrator of her book: Pick Me! A Flower Awaits Her Destiny. It is filled with beautifully detailed images of the process it takes for a seed to become a flower.
Each student was given a seed as they arrived for her presentation in the library, a tiny keepsake for remembering the big message of her book: we are all beautiful inside and are destined to make beautiful contributions to the world. Your leaf crown is always with you, students!
Ms. O’Brien is self-published through Barnes and Noble. We encourage students to purchase a copy to keep; a memory of meeting a real author and perhaps inspiration to follow her path!

Three Diamondbacks will be representing CGE at the Martin County School District Elementary Spelling Bee today! Arnav, Lilly Kate, and Jaelyn earned this opportunity by winning classroom and school-wide contests. According to Ms. Logsdon, our team leader, "these students have been practicing and working very hard to be the best they can be." Good luck spellers, we are proud of you!

The CGE yearbook is almost finished and looks better than ever! Very few extra copies are printed- we strongly encourage families to preorder one using this link: https://www.balfour.com/florida/palm-city/citrus-grove-elementary-school
Printed yearbooks arrive in late May and are delivered to students during the last week of school. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own one!

What's that spell?! 📣🐍
Citrus Grove Elementary School teachers Ms. Vanessa Molina-Council and Ms. Tammy Reinhart invited Martin County High School cheerleaders (and CGE alum!) to help build the school's very own spirit squad!
The result… the birth of the CGE Rattlers! They debuted at Saturday’s Russell Holloway Track Meet, where CGE took home the Overall Champions trophy for the third year in a row!
