**Curriculum Night Tomorrow 8/24/21** We changed our Curriculum Night format this year to offer parents freedom and flexibility to choose which teachers to visit and when to visit them. Here are some helpful hints to streamline your experience: Parents may come at any time during the 5:30-7:30 window and visit teachers at their presentation times in an order that works best for them. Parents should: •Log into the FOCUS Parent Portal and click Class Schedule prior to arriving at HOMS and either print or take a screenshot of your child’s schedule with room numbers •Prioritize teachers you would like to visit (you do not need to visit all teachers or follow a prescribed schedule if you don’t wish to do so) •Plan to visit the teachers of your choosing in any sequence o Some teachers with unique classes in their schedule will notify students about the specific times of those presentations. o If a classroom becomes crowded, the teacher may close the session to ensure safe numbers. However, with multiple session times offered, each parent should be able to visit every teacher they wish to see (Individual appointments are also always available. Any parent who is unable to visit a teacher during curriculum night, can contact our guidance office to schedule a time for a later date.) o If for some reason a parent has trouble locating the schedule/room numbers in FOCUS, or if a parent gets turned around on campus, staff will be on hand to help. It is our hope that by offering a flexible schedule that allows for parent choice, we will more closely meet the needs of each parent and make the experience positive.

**Helpful Hints for the Carline** Parents should form two lanes until the first bend in the parking lot then zipper merge. Parents dropping students off in the morning should pull as far forward as possible when moving through the carline to allow more students behind them to exit their vehicle at the same time. OFF BLOCK STUDENTS: 6th period ends at 2:58, all off block students have to check out before leaving campus. Please follow guidelines under Full Day for zipper merge and safety. Please note that crossing guards do not come on duty until 3:45 for regular dismissal. FULL DAY STUDENTS: • Walkers/Bikers are called to dismiss at 3:49 (so that they may exit the campus before vehicles start moving) • Carline students are called to dismiss at 3:52 • Bus riders dismiss at the 3:55 bell • Carline will not begin to move until 3:52 (or later if there are still students crossing the car lane in front of school.) • Please remind your child to watch for your car while they are waiting in car line. • Students are permitted to use their phones to communicate dismissal plans with parents after 3:49. Parents may find it helpful to text their children in the carline to alert them that they will be arriving soon. • Follow the “zipper merge” system for merging from two lanes to one at the first bend in our parking lot during standard and early dismissal times • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cX0I8OdK7Tk • Students may only load into a parent’s vehicle from the sidewalk directly in front of the school. • Students may not cross parking lot traffic unless escorted by a parent. • Students may load into a parent’s vehicle anyplace there is an opening in the fence along the front sidewalk between the front covered walkway and the blue sign at the bend by the baseball field. • Parents should establish a rainy day plan with their child at the start of each school year. Permission is typically granted for students to use personal devices during 7th period to communicate a change to rainy day dismissal plans when the weather is severe. Any bikes/scooters that are left behind will be locked up overnight if a change of dismissal plan occurs due to weather. • We are currently experiencing added slowdowns due to a crossing guard staffing shortage at the Martin County Sherriff’s Office. We encourage parents to exit the carline to the west when possible. Cars and busses making left turns contribute to wait time. • Last year carline was usually done by 4:15. We look forward to improving our time again this year. Thank you for being courteous to other drivers in the carline and extending grace when others make a mistake.
