THE BEACH ANNOUNCEMENTS Next week is Celebrate Literacy Week. The theme is ‘Launch into Literacy: Blast Off Into New Worlds’. In honor of this theme, we will have 2 contests. The first is a “Caught Reading” contest. Students who are 'Caught Reading' for enjoyment this week may be given a 'Caught Reading' ticket to enter in a drawing for a gift card to Barnes and Noble. All tickets should be brought to the media center and given to either Ms. Sheila or Mrs. Wintercorn. The second contest is a persuasive essay contest. The prompt is also based on the theme. ‘Persuade a publishing company to publish your book titled, Blast Off Into New Worlds. If you were to write a young adult book with this title, what summary would you use to persuade the publishers? Be sure to include your story’s “out-of-this-world” setting, plot, theme, and character(s). This minimum 250 word, maximum 500-word, summary must include a rebuttal. ⚖️CELEBRATING CONSTITUTIONAL SCHOLARS⚖️ In partnership with the Center for Constitutional Values' Scholarship Fund and the YMCA of The Treasure Coast, the Martin County School District conducted the seventh annual “Constitution Academic Competition” this week! Teams of students from Jensen Beach, Martin County and South Fork high schools debated the U.S. Supreme Court case “Miller v. Alabama” before presiding judges - the Honorable Kathleen Roberts (19th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida), the Honorable William Roby (19th Judicial Circuit Court) and the Honorable Alan O. Forst (Fourth District Court of Appeal). The case addressed the constitutionality of enacting life sentences without parole for juveniles convicted of capital crimes. The senior night festivities will be during halftime. There is a varsity game only. It will begin at 6:30. Also, here at home, the Wrestling team will be hosting the 1A Region 4 dual meet. Three out of the five best teams in the state will be competing. It should be an exciting meet, so be sure to be here by 6:00 to cheer on our boys. At the Cradle Cancer Invitational on Jan. 7-8, Duguay went 4-0 and defeated Palm Harbor’s Connor Reeves with a 3-1 decision to win the championship in the 132-pound division. The boys' soccer team will be taking on Port St. Lucie High school. Please wish them luck as they travel up there tonight. The game has been moved from 5PM to 6PM.

Starting January11th there will be SAT Prep sessions in the media center. They will be held after school each Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15-5:15. You will receive personalized instruction to help you improve your scores. The ASVAB CEP is scheduled for Thursday the 27th of January with a Period 1 start time in the media Center. Attention Junior Parents: Guidance will be hosting a parent information night on Tuesday, January 11th from 6-7 p.m. in the JBHS Media Center. Also, here at home, the Girls' soccer team is taking on South Fork. Those games begin at 6pm. That should be a great game so head to the stadium and cheer them on.
