This week, the Food and Nutrition Services department is starting Fresh Eats at Martin County High School.
Fresh Eats is a customizable meal line that gives students more control over what goes into their meal.
The new offering takes a build a bowl approach with six steps including choosing a base, protein, toppings, sauce, fruit or veggie, and milk.
"The goal is to get students engaged in what they eat, creating excitement at lunch by offering them a rotating menu of customizable options," said Laura Holmedal, Director, Food and Nutrition Services. "It’s easy to accommodate vegetarian or vegan diets with plenty of food for their meal."
Reaction to the Fresh Eats line has been extremely positive.
Some of the student responses so far have said, "I like it as a healthier option."
Another student said, "This food is gas," meaning a feeling of goodness or satisfaction.
