Chief of Safety and Security Frank Frangella and Supervisor of School Resource Officers Lt. Joe Kukuvka talk about recent online threats

The Martin County School District and Martin County Sheriff’s Office have seen an increase in threats made online toward schools. Because these threats are purposely vague, families and staff are led to believe their school could be targeted.

To protect our schools and ensure the swiftest response, we urge everyone to immediately report threats directly to authorities or through the FortifyFL app—without resharing them online. The faster law enforcement is notified, the quicker they can determine the legitimacy of the threat and keep our community informed.

This is an issue that many districts across the state and country are currently dealing with. Also like many other districts, our local law enforcement and school safety teams have found that many of these threats have not originated in their communities; they have been reshared numerous times.

None of the threats at this time have originated locally. All reported threats will be investigated, and if the source of the threat is a student in our community, they will face serious legal consequences.
