The donation will help partially fund the salary and benefits of one teacher at the one-of-a-kind ESC for one year. 🐢FULL STEAM AHEAD🐢 During the #MartinLearns Professional Development days on Tuesday and Wednesday, some of the District's science teachers went to the one-of-a-kind Environmental Studies Center to go full STEAM ahead. Teachers learned how to incorporate Scientific Investigations (Nature of Science) and the Engineering Design Process into their classrooms. They talked about the importance of taking students outside to study from their surroundings. Several guest speakers helped with the lessons, such as the Everglades Foundation, which inspired our educators to be champions for our schools in Everglades Literacy, and the Guy Harvey Foundation, which incorporated art into science. The Inwater Research Group also came to the ESC and gave teachers ideas to integrate lessons about our flippers friends, like Coral! Headwaters Science Institute taught about fostering curiosity in the classroom and working through a problem to discover a solution. Of course, when visiting the ESC, teachers had to get on the River Scout for some fun and education on the water! Come August, our science teachers will have so many new tools in their toolboxes! #ALLINMartin👊

Superintendent Maine’s family joined school district staff for the occasion, allowing many of the employees in attendance the opportunity to meet and greet while enjoying delicious refreshments provided by our Food & Nutrition Services team. The Martin County School Board named Mr. Maine the Martin County School District’s Superintendent of Schools in April 2023, approving a four-year initial employment contract as part of the measure. #ALLINMartin👊

🍎LEAVING A LEGACY🍎 Last week, Superintendent Michael Maine and the Martin County School Board celebrated the career of Stuart Middle School Mr. Peter Erwig. Mr. Erwig has been an outstanding science educator in the Martin County School District for 30 years! He helps students reach their full potential and truly embodies the District's mission to educate ALL students for success. Throughout his 30-year career at MCSD, Mr. Erwig has taught Physical Education to students at J.D. Parker Elementary, coached golf at Jensen Beach High School and cross country at Martin County High School. He has also spent some of his summers sharing his love of science at the Environmental Studies Council Center. Choosing to retire was a hard decision for Mr. Erwig, but he looks forward to spending more time traveling to visit his daughters and teaching golf. Thank you, Mr. Erwig, for your dedication to your students for these last 30 years! #ALLINMartin👊
