Next week is the annual High School Pledge to Vote Voter Registration Drive with the Martin County Supervisor of Elections!
During the first week of October, the elections office team will visit every high school campus! Eligible 16- and 17-year-olds can pre-register to vote, and students 18 or older can register right then and there. 🏫🗳️
This is a VOLUNTARY, NON-PARTISAN voter registration opportunity. This civic educational initiative is open to 16 to 18-year-old students.

MCHS is please to offer the ASVAB test on Friday, October 20th in the media center. The test is free and administered by military recruiters but there is absolutely no obligation to join the military. The test is for students in grades 10-12. The ASVAB is a career and vocational test measuring your career interests and vocational aptitudes. Please sign up in the school counseling office to take the ASVAB test. Three Martin County School District students have been named Semifinalists in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program!
Over 1.3 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.
Approximately 16,000 students were selected as semifinalists in this year's competition. Finalists will be announced in the spring of 2024.

The Florida Legislature has designated the last full week in September as "Celebrate Freedom Week." During this special week, the Martin County School District will proudly incorporate meaningful activities and lessons to reinforce the principles our nation was founded on. 🇺🇸📖
Celebrate Freedom Week highlights the significance of the Declaration of Independence. Through our social studies classes, students will participate in an age-appropriate in-depth student of the intent, meaning and importance of the Declaration of Independence. Each morning throughout the week, students will recite the following words of the Declaration of Independence:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
Families that do not wish to have their child participate in the oral recitation of the Declaration of Independence must provide written notice to their school no later than Friday morning, September 22.

🛤️RAIL SAFETY WEEK🛤️
Sept. 18-22 is Rail Safety Week, and with GoBrightline starting service from Miami to Orlando on Friday, this is an opportune time to remind families how to be safe near railroad crossings.
🚅 Drivers, pedestrians and cyclists should be aware that rail traffic runs in both directions.
🚅 Stay off the tracks and NEVER go around crossing gates.
🚅 Only cross the railroad at a designated crossing.
🚅 NEVER stop on the tracks.
🚅 Avoid distractions.
Brightline trains can travel up to 110 mph. With service starting to Orlando, more high-speed trains will be passing through Martin County.

Shout-out to Mr. Mark Cowles (Coordinator of Art, Music, Physical Education, Social Studies and World Languages), Mr. Terrell Mabins and all of our Financial Literacy teachers who came together to provide this comprehensive approach to educating students about financial principles.
We are enthusiastic about the future of this program! We currently offer this instruction to freshmen, as it is required per Florida law, but we plan to expand to other grade levels in the coming school years. Stay tuned!

🎶🇺🇸UNITY THROUGH MUSIC🇺🇸🎶
Martin County High School's OPUS Choir sang beautifully during Monday's September 11th Tribute at the Cummings Library in Palm City. It was a heartfelt tribute to those we lost on that fateful day and the brave men and women who ran straight ahead in an attempt to save lives 22 years ago.
The power of music to bring us together and heal our hearts was on full display as the OPUS choir sang their hearts out. Listen in as their harmonious melodies remind us of the strength and resilience that unites us as a nation. 🇺🇸🎶
