⚖️CELEBRATING CONSTITUTIONAL SCHOLARS⚖️
In partnership with the Center for Constitutional Values' Scholarship Fund and the YMCA of The Treasure Coast, the Martin County School District conducted the seventh annual “Constitution Academic Competition” this week!
Teams of students from Jensen Beach, Martin County and South Fork high schools debated the U.S. Supreme Court case “Miller v. Alabama” before presiding judges - the Honorable Kathleen Roberts (19th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida), the Honorable William Roby (19th Judicial Circuit Court) and the Honorable Alan O. Forst (Fourth District Court of Appeal). The case addressed the constitutionality of enacting life sentences without parole for juveniles convicted of capital crimes.

💪PINNING HIS OBSTACLES💪
Michael Tabor, a freshman at Martin County High School, was diagnosed with ocular albinism and congenital nystagmus at three months old. Joining a wrestling program while dealing with visual impairment may not seem like something that would be at the top of many people's wish list, but Michael is no ordinary young man. He has embraced the challenge and his role on the Martin Co Athletics Wrestling team.

Martin County High School participated in the seventh annual “Constitution Academic Competition” sponsored by the Center for Constitutional Values’ Scholarship Fund, the YMCA of the Treasure Coast, and the Martin County School District. The teams—Nira Goyal and Gianni Porcelli; Laurali Firestone and Jordan LoSardo—debated the U.S. Supreme Court case “Miller v. Alabama” to ascertain if the case was wrongly decided? (The case addressed the constitutionality of enacting the death penalty for juveniles convicted of capital crimes.) Although both teams effectively articulated their positions, Laurali Firestone and Jordan LoSardo won the debate (advocating for Alabama). They each received a $250 scholarship and will advance to Round 2 in April, where they will compete for additional scholarships. A special thanks to Justice Kathleen Roberts, 19th Judicial Circuit Court, for presiding over the debate.
We are excited to share that Martin County High School has several Scholastic Art Award winners this year! What an accomplishment for our student artists. Please join us in celebrating student success in the arts.
